Our Milestones: 50 years of continuous Innovation
For five decades, Mechmar has continued to strengthen its engineering, manufacturing and regional-support capabilities. From producing our first boiler in Johor to serving industries across multiple international markets, every milestone reflects our commitment to reliable performance, manufacturing quality and continuous improvement.
1976 — The Beginning of Mechmar Boilers
Mechanical Marine evolved into Mechmar Boilers, marking the beginning of a specialist industrial boiler manufacturer committed to delivering dependable steam and thermal-energy solutions.
1977 — Our First Boiler
The first Mechmar boiler, the AYS 2A 350/150, was manufactured at our facility in Johor.
Using proven reverse-flame fire-tube technology, the boiler provided customers with a cost-effective, dependable and efficient steam-generation solution.
1980s — Quality Certification and Regional Expansion
Mechmar was successfully certified as a Lloyd’s Class 1 Pressure Vessel Manufacturer by Lloyd’s Register of the United Kingdom, representing an important milestone in our manufacturing and quality-assurance development.
During this period, Mechmar expanded beyond Malaysia and began delivering boilers to international markets, including:
- Singapore
- Australia
- Sri Lanka
- Indonesia
- The Philippines
Mechmar also established its first overseas regional office in Colombo, Sri Lanka, strengthening our ability to support customers outside Malaysia.
1981 — Introduction of the Titan MB
Mechmar manufactured its first three-pass conventional wet-back boiler, the Titan MB.
The Titan MB was developed to deliver reliable industrial steam generation, efficient heat transfer and convenient maintenance across a variety of industrial applications.
1982 — Investment in Testing and Product Development
Mechmar continued investing in manufacturing quality by establishing in-house mechanical-testing facilities.
During this period, the company also designed and manufactured its first biomass-fired water-tube boiler for the palm-oil milling industry.
Development of New Thermal Solutions
As customer requirements evolved, Mechmar expanded its range of steam and thermal-energy solutions.
Important product developments included:
- The first under-fired waste-heat boiler for the wood industry
- The Titan MTH thermal-fluid heater
- The Titan MCH, combining water-tube and fire-tube design in one competitive boiler package
- Biomass-fired water-tube boilers for palm-oil mill operations
1987 — Introduction of the Titan MTH
Mechmar designed and manufactured the Titan MTH, its first thermal-fluid heater.
This development expanded Mechmar’s capability beyond steam generation and enabled the company to support industrial processes requiring stable and reliable high-temperature heating.
1990s — Development of the Titan BD
As demand for renewable industrial energy increased, Mechmar designed and developed the Titan BD, its first bi-drum water-tube boiler.
The Titan BD strengthened Mechmar’s position in biomass-fired steam generation, particularly for palm-oil mills and other industries with access to solid or agricultural fuels.
1993 — ISO 9002 Quality Certification
Mechmar’s manufacturing operations achieved ISO 9002 Quality Management certification through Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance, United Kingdom.
This certification reflected the company’s continued focus on manufacturing standards, process control and product quality.
1997 — Second Manufacturing Facility
Mechmar established its second manufacturing facility through PT Mechmar Jaya Industries in Medan, Indonesia.
This investment gave the company a stronger presence in Indonesia and increased its ability to serve customers throughout Southeast Asia.
During this period, Mechmar’s international footprint continued to grow, with boilers delivered and installed in markets including Japan, South America and East Africa.
2000s — High-Pressure Boilers and Product Improvement
Mechmar designed, manufactured and commissioned its first pair of coal-fired, high-pressure boilers for small-scale power generation.
The company also redesigned and improved the Titan MC, providing customers in the tea-processing industry with a highly efficient solution for drying tea leaves.
2013 — Establishment of Mechmar After Sales & Services
Mechmar After Sales & Services Sdn Bhd (MASS) was incorporated to strengthen the company’s lifecycle-support capabilities.
This dedicated operation expanded Mechmar’s capacity to provide:
- Preventive boiler maintenance
- Boiler inspections
- Retubing and repair work
- Burner servicing and combustion tuning
- Spare parts
- Performance improvement
- Technical and emergency support
2017 — ISO 9001 Certification
Mechmar After Sales & Services successfully achieved ISO 9001 Quality Management certification through Lloyd’s Register.
The certification reinforced Mechmar’s commitment to consistent service quality and continuous process improvement.
2017 — Advancing Manufacturing Automation
Mechmar began a continuous programme of investment in manufacturing automation.
These investments were introduced to improve fabrication accuracy, manufacturing consistency, production efficiency and overall product quality.
2019 — Developing More Efficient Thermal Products
Mechmar accelerated the development of higher-efficiency thermal products in response to customers’ growing requirements for lower fuel consumption, improved operational performance and reduced energy costs.
2026 — Celebrating 50 Years of Engineering Excellence
Today, Mechmar celebrates 50 years of engineering, manufacturing and customer support.
With more than 4,500 boilers successfully commissioned, Mechmar continues to deliver reliable steam and thermal-energy solutions backed by experienced engineering, quality manufacturing and comprehensive lifecycle support.
